While national partnerships are very important, Lafarge does not overlook the need for partnerships with local associations or NGOs.
Several programs are currently being carried out in the field. They touch on all aspects of sustainable development including Swasth Bharat: Health & Safety programs, Sakshar Bharat: Computer Education for students, Saksham Bharat : Vocational Training infrastructure development, preventive medical programs, local economic development and Environmental protection.
Partnership with the Indian Institutes of Technology, Kharagpur for Micro- Enterprise Lafarge India partnered with IIT, Kharagpur's Planning and Management Unit, Department of Architecture and Regional Planning to implement a project titled "Sustainable Livelihood Generation through Sal Plate Enterprise", The objective of the Sal Plate Enterprise was to enhance skills of women members of existing Self Help Groups and livelihood generation through establishing Sal Leaf Plate enterprise in a sustainable manner by setting up a micro-enterprise of producing Sal Plates in 2 villages in Mejia, West Bengal. Partnership with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) an autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institute of higher education - the IITs were created to train scientists and engineers, with the aim of developing a skilled workforce to support the economic and social development of India.
Partnership with Shamayita Math for Safal Krishak - A Successful Farmer program
Shamayita Math aims to serve the mankind through different welfare program giving emphasis on social cultural mental economic and spiritual upliftment of the rural and urban population. In partnership with Shamayita Math Lafarge has launched the Project Safal Krishak (A Rural Livelihood Initiative) was launched in June 2010 in village Nandanpur of Latiyaboni Panchayat, Gangajalghati, Bhakura. The project includes Pond deepening activities, seed multiplication activities, mushroom and vegetable cultivation.
